Acquisitions Tasks

Out of the library systems that participated in this report, six offer minimal acquisitions support for member libraries.  This work entails some or all of the following: setting up vendor records in the ILS for electronic ordering and/or invoicing, mapping ILS fields from a vendor web site into order records, removing cancelled and/or fulfilled orders and compiling reports tied to orders or funds.  A few systems provide periodic training on the area of acquisitions, have created support pages for staff use and/or perform fiscal close on behalf of member libraries.   Throughout Wisconsin, there was no public library system where all library members were utilizing the full acquisitions module. Instead, each system tends to have a subset of libraries not using any portion of the module or using the system to create order records alone so that patrons can see titles on order in the public catalog and place holds on them.  Within each system only a handful of libraries were making use of acquisitions for full accounting purposes and the management of orders.
